Improvement notice for Children’s Services closed

The formal Children’s Services Improvement Notice that was issued to Plymouth City Council in May, following the Ofsted focused visit in December 2022, has been formally removed by the Minister of Children’s, Families and Wellbeing.

In a letter issued to the Council, the Minister recognised the significant improvements that have been made within the service – particularly those highlighted in the recent Ofsted inspection – and has the confidence that the Council will continue to address the areas of improvement moving forward.

David Haley, Director of Children’s Services, said: “It is good news that the Improvement Notice has been lifted and I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work, determination and commitment to bring about the improvements recognised in the Ofsted report.

"We have given confidence that we have the foundations of a good service in place and will continue on our improvement journey. I am pleased that the Minister has recognised our direction of travel and is confident that we can continue to improve the service.

"We are not complacent and remain totally focused on our plans that will result in an outstanding service for Plymouth’s children."
