Lane closures planned for in and around Pennycomequick

Railway Bridge

Work is due to start next week on drainage improvements at the exit of Plymouth station onto Saltash Road.

South West Highways will be on site from 22 August to carry out the project that will increase capacity of the sewage system as part of the station’s long term regeneration plan.

The work is needed as the area around the station is being transformed. Not only is Intercity Place being turned into a new medical faculty for the next generation of medical professionals, plans are afoot to transform the front of the station into Brunel Plaza, with shops and offices on the cards as well as cafes and a major public space.

To enable the work to improve the drainage system, there will be a number of temporary lane closures.

The work is being carried out in two phases. The first starts runs from 22 August until 9 September. It will involve single lane closures on:

  • Alma Road inbound from Monroe Gardens to Pennycomequick Roundabout
  • Stuart Road inbound from bus stop to Pennycomequick Roundabout
  • Central Park Avenue from outside number 3 to Pennycomequick Roundabout
  • Pennycomequick Roundabout and Pennycomequick Hill inbound, from Alma Road to the railway bridge (left hand turn maintained)

PennycomequickThe second phase runs from 5 September until 9 December and involves a short lane closure – in this case the bus lane and cycle lane – on Pennycomequick Hill inbound from the iron bridge to the exit of the train station.

The work will take place between 7am and 8pm.

South West Highways have written to residents and businesses in the area.
