Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information about libraries

Page updated 5 January 2021

We have made some changes to our services following the government’s announcement of a national lockdown from 5 January.

The following libraries will be temporarily closed:

  • Estover Library
  • North Prospect Library

All other libraries are providing a Select and Collect service from 5 January, as well as essential PC use by appointment only.

Select and Collect

A Select and Collect service is in operation at the following libraries:

  • Central Library
  • Crownhill Library
  • Devonport Library
  • Efford Library
  • Peverell Library
  • Plympton Library
  • Plymstock Library
  • St Budeaux Library
  • Southway Library

To use this service, let us know what kind of books you like to read. We’ll select up to three books for you to come and collect from the library.

We aim to find books you will enjoy. We may not always get it right but we hope to introduce you to new books and authors.

How to request books through Select and Collect

You can select up to 3 books by using the Select and Collect online order form

You can also call or email the library:

When you contact us, we will require the following:

  • your name
  • your library card number
  • your phone number or your email address
  • your preferred format: Fiction / Non-fiction / Large print / Audiobook
  • your preferred age category: Children / Young adult / Adult
  • your preferred genre (fiction) or subject (non-fiction)

Have a look at our video to see how Select and Collect works.

Collecting books

Once your books have been selected we will contact you offering you a day and time slot to come and collect your books. Collection times are allocated between 10am and 3.45pm.

Your order will be ready at the library entrance and you will not be able to access the library building. Please observe social distancing if others are waiting and take notice of any signs.

If you have specific access requirements, please let the library know when you place your order.

If you can’t come to the library yourself you can ask friends or family members to collect your books for you.
