5G connectivity

This agreement not only speeds up the rollout of fibre delivery across Plymouth and South West Devon, it is also the catalyst for early delivery of 5G.

5G is the next generation of mobile internet connection and offers much faster data download and upload speeds.

Through greater use of the radio spectrum it will allow far more devices to access the mobile internet at the same time.

5G Mobile technology requires a high speed/high bandwidth broadband connection to carry signals from the mast within range the device being used to the wider internet/servers.

Current copper based and slower fibre connectivity is not sufficient to carry enhanced data loads in real time that is required.

Is 5G technology damaging to people’s health?

There is no evidence that radio signals used for mobile and WiFi have any effect on health – this includes 5G. This is backed up by decades of mobile usage around the world, and is in line with advice from Public Health England, the NHS and the World Health Organisation.

5G uses radio frequencies that have been in use for decades, with no effect on health.
