Council shows support for ASB Awareness Week 2023

Plymouth is celebrating a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep people in Plymouth safe this week.

Running from July 3 to 9, ASB Awareness Week 2023 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.

Over the course of the week, our Safer Communities Team will be joined by partner agencies including Devon and Cornwall Police and the city’s housing associations, in road shows across the city.

Each day, the teams will provide advice and support about anti-social behaviour at the following locations:

  • Monday 3 July – Freedom Fields Park, Greenbank
  • Tuesday 4 July – Astor Park, Prince Rock
  • Wednesday 5 July– Honicknowle Green, Honicknowle
  • Thursday 6 July– Southway Community Centre, Hendwell Close, Southway
  • Friday 7 July – St Budeaux Square, St Budeaux

The events will take place from 10am – 1pm.

In addition, our youth services teams will be out and about providing advice and support to young people who may be victims of ASB.

Councillor Sally Haydon, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Libraries, Cemeteries & Crematoria, said: “This week is a really good chance to shine a light on anti-social behaviour its effects on communities and what can be done to reduce it.

“We’re lucky to live in a relatively safe city but where there is anti-social behaviour, it’s really important that residents don’t suffer in silence.

“Tell us what, tell us when and we and our partners will do all we can to help.”

Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve added: “ASB is not low-level. It can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.

“It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities.

“We are delighted that Plymouth City Council is supporting this hugely important campaign. It is vital to develop partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”
