Doors of Discovery added to Pounds Park

Have you spotted the new Doors of Discovery in Pounds Park?

They’re part of a fantastic project by our Green Minds team, Earthjump and Montpelier Primary School.

Many special trees grow in the park thanks to global travellers of the past who imported the plants from abroad. Using this as their starting point, the children at Montpelier added some dragons, intrepid sea journeys, and folklore -weaving truth with imagination - to tell the stories of how nine of these trees came to be in Pounds Park.

These wonderful stories were then transferred onto story 'Doors of Discovery', forged on copper and illustrated with different parts of the children's stories.

They are now planted in the park, alongside the trees in the stories, as a tree trail for passers by to enjoy. We hope that the Doors of Discovery will encourage people to take a moment to notice these incredible trees, and that they might just add a little magic to people's days.

Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, said: "I'd like to thank the pupils from Montpellier School for their help in this lovely project.

"The doors are a brilliant addition to Pounds Park and I look forward to exploring them with my young family."
