New Conservative administration takes office in Plymouth

Plymouth City Council has a new Conservative administration following the Annual Meeting held at the Guildhall today (20 May).

Councillor Richard Bingley was formally appointed as leader, alongside a new Cabinet.

The meeting follows changes in the political make-up of the Council after the local election on 5 May. There are now 29 Conservative members, 24 Labour, two Green and two independents.

Councillor Bingley said: "I am honoured to be the leader of the new Conservative administration in Plymouth. We have a dynamic new Cabinet in place and its members bring a wealth of expertise and experience to the table. We’ll be wasting no time in getting to grips with the most pressing issues facing our city and delivering priorities that matter to Plymouth residents.

“We’ll be focusing on providing access to decent education, higher-value jobs, good homes and access to first-class health and care.

“There are many important opportunities for Plymouth that need to be grasped and we intend wherever possible to embrace cross-party working for the good of our city."
