Plymouth Sound - Enjoy it, Love it, Care for it

Have fun with it, love it and look after it - that’s the message coming through loud and proud about the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park.

We’ve put together an easy guide to remind people about all the amazing things they can do in and around Plymouth Sound this year, and highlight just some of the amazing work ongoing right now. And to give a glimpse of what’s on the horizon.

Based around the simple themes of adventure, inspire, explore, care and recover, the colourful document sets out what’s so special about the Sound right now and what we can enjoy this year as well as plans for the future.

Council Leader Tudor Evans said: “Lockdown has turned people’s attention to what’s on offer on their doorstep, and for the people of Plymouth that is the wonderful Sound.

“This is a reminder that there’s more, much more to come with the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and there’s plenty to enjoy right now.”

The guide sets out just some of the things happening this summer - the SailGP spectacular, the Hatchling, the reopening of the National Marine Aquarium as well as programmes designed to get young people onto the water in exciting and safe ways.

There’s also an increasing number of conservation and environmental events to get involved in such as beach clean ups and plastic reduction.

The publication also highlights conservation, scientific study, marine autonomy, digital integration and more.

Councillor Evans added: “The stunning Plymouth Sound one of the world’s most important landscapes – both above and below the water’s surface - with incredibly rich marine life, scientific study that goes back hundreds of years, modern technology and the largest naval base in Western Europe.

“The publication we are putting out today is a taster, a small celebration to encourage us to engage with the wonders and opportunities of Plymouth Sound – to enjoy it, to love it and to care for it.”
