Update on Street Services work during COVID-19

You may see our Street Services teams out working to keep Plymouth moving, safe and clean.

We are continuing to empty household bins from around 30,000 properties across the city a day. To ensure we have enough crew members available to do this, we have temporarily suspended garden waste and bulky waste collections.

We are also carrying out a minimum level of maintenance in our parks, greens and pitches. This work is in line with the Government guidance and we are doing this by transferring staff between teams, while ensuring they are following safe practices to keep themselves and members of the public safe.

It is important to maintain sports pitches where possible to avoid them becoming so degraded they will be unusable when it is finally safe to open them again.

You may also see us carrying out weed spraying on key routes in the city over the coming weeks. This will help avoid weeds becoming so embedded that they become very difficult to eradicate in future.

Our workers will be on foot or on quad bikes, maintaining social distancing and wearing their usual personal protective equipment, including paper suits.

We won’t be able to weed widely in the city or in neighbourhoods so we really appreciate it when residents help out by keeping the area around their property boundaries weed-free.
