How to apply for £150 energy rebate

Households who pay their Council Tax by means other than direct debit can now apply for their £150 energy rebate.

Most households living in Council Tax bands A to D who pay by direct debit have now received the Government rebate in their bank accounts.

Households who pay by other methods, as well as direct debit payers whose Council Tax account name is not the same as on their bank details and didn’t receive the rebate automatically, can now claim the rebate in one of three ways:

  • Provide the Council with their bank details and receive the £150 through a BACS credit to your account
  • Request a £150 credit to your Council Tax account
  • Request a Post Office voucher to obtain £150 cash from any Post Office branch.

For more information and to apply for the rebate residents should visit the Council Tax page on the Council’s website.

Households should have their Council Tax bills to hand when they apply. Alternatively, they can request a copy of their bill.

Those who wish to have the rebate paid into their bank account should have their bank details to hand.

To be eligible for the rebate the property you pay Council Tax for will need to be in Council Tax bands A, B, C or D. You can check the band on your bill or by using the Council Tax band checker on the Government website

The property will need to be your only or main home. You can't get the rebate on a second or empty property.

The property will also need to be chargeable for Council Tax. Student halls of residence are not eligible.

Councillor Mark Shayer, Cabinet member for Finance and Economy, said: “Over the last few weeks we’ve paid the £150 energy rebate to most households in Plymouth who pay their Council Tax by direct debit and have now put in the systems needed to take rebate applications from households who pay by other methods.

“We know just how badly some households need this rebate and our team has worked hard to make it available as soon as possible. I am pleased that we are now making the payments well ahead of the Government’s deadline of September.”
