Plymouth residents are urged to download the NHS COVID-19 App

Plymouth residents are being urged to download the new NHS COVID-19 App to help protect loved ones and make going out easier and safer.

The app makes it easy to comply with the new Government rules that mean you now have to check-in your details when visiting a range of businesses and venues.

By law businesses and venues need to collect details of people visiting their premises, so the NHS Test and Trace service can get in contact with them quickly in the unfortunate event of someone testing positive.

The app makes this easy as you can check-in by scanning the QR posters that businesses are now displaying at their entrances.

If you don’t use a smartphone you can still check-in manually.

The app also has a number of tools to protect people, including risk alerts by postcode, a symptom checker and test booking.

The app does this while protecting a user’s anonymity. Nobody, including the government, will know who or where a particular user is.

Councillor Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council and Chair of the Local Outbreak Engagement Board, said: “Unfortunately coronavirus shows no signs of going away and we are all going to have to do things differently to protect each other and be able to go about our daily business safely. The new app is another tool that can help us do this.

“Using it will make it easier to visit many Plymouth businesses and venues as you can check in very quickly. It helps businesses too as they are required by law to record your visit and this is the best way for them to do this.

“The more people that use the app the more effective it will be so please download it to protect your loved ones and keep Plymouth safe.”

The app is available for smartphones only - not tablets, smartwatches or other devices.

To get started, go to Android's Google Play or Apple's App Store and search for "NHS Covid-19" or click on the links from the NHS website. This also gives information on how to report an issue or if you have any questions.
