Council leaders urge half-term visitors to obey the rules to combat COVID-19

Plymouth has joined councils across the South West in urging anyone travelling to the region over half-term to think about their journeys and to obey the rules when here.

A joint message from council leaders across the region is that if you are visiting the area, remember the rules still apply while you’re on holiday – coronavirus doesn’t take a break so please respect and protect local communities.

Councillor Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council and chair of the Plymouth Local Outbreak Engagement Board, said: “The number of COVID-19 cases in Plymouth is rising so visitors are welcome here only if they are prepared to follow all the Covid-19 guidelines at all times.

“This is a critical time in our efforts to stem the spread of the virus. We must stop the increase in cases across our community. It might be tempting to lower your guard while relaxing in our beautiful ocean city but if you do, you are putting both yourself and Plymouth residents at risk.

“Please put the welfare and safety of others before your leisure time. Don’t come here if you live in a very high-risk area, or if you have any symptoms of coronavirus.

“If you follow all the guidance and look out for others, we’re happy to welcome you here.”
