Disruption to garden waste service

We're really sorry but garden waste collections will be disrupted again this week, and throughout August, because of staff shortages.

Like many industries across the country, we have a number of Covid-related absences which coupled with normal staff absences means that on some days, we do not have enough staff to run all of the garden waste routes around the city. So far this week, only 60 per cent of the routes have been completed.

Rather than suspend the service entirely, we want to still try and run as best we can and we've done all we can to try and mitigate our staff shortages by bringing in agency staff.

Please continue to present your bin on collection day because we're doing our best to run as many routes as we possibly can each day, albeit with depleted crews.

If we don't come on the day you’re expecting us or during that collection week, you will need to either to wait for your next collection date or use one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres. Please do not report a missed bin as we won’t be able to schedule a collection.

We're sorry, we know it's frustrating, but we must prioritise the collection of brown and green bins over garden waste.

Unfortunately, waste crews aren't the only teams who are affected. Grass-cutting and street cleaning teams are also down on numbers and while we will still be trying to run all of our services to the best of our ability, it's likely that for the next few weeks or so, things won't get done as quickly as we’d like.

Know one thing, though; all of the available crews are working incredibly hard to do their very best in very difficult circumstances.

Please bear with us – we hope to be back to full strength very soon.
