Grass cutting update: July 2020

We've been so lucky to see some amazing wildflowers grow throughout our city over the last few months.

Thanks to our #NoMowMay policy, where we let a number of verges and banks grow wild, we saw some wonderful flashes of colour; from Mount Wise to Mannamead and from Peverell to Plympton.

The bees and other insects have loved it, nature charities and organisations have been in touch to tell us that they loved it and residents have also told us how much they have enjoyed it, too. In fact, it was residents who took these snaps!

Naturally, though, wildflowers don't last all year round and some are beginning to wilt. So, as planned, we restarted an adapted grass cutting schedule at the end of June.

This programme will see most areas cut as before but we’re still going to leave a bit for nature; places like steep banks, or verges that are more use to insects and wildlife than they are to people.

We cut grass on a four weekly schedule so if we've not got round to your area yet, you can expect us by the end of the month.

Our teams are still a little depleted, with some staff still shielding and others helping other, more urgent services, but rest assured we're doing our best to get round the whole city as quickly as we can.
