Help our waste crews

Our waste crews are working hard to keep bin collections running during COVID-19, despite reduced numbers of staff.

Unfortunately they’re seeing lots of bulky, DIY and garden waste in bins, which makes them very heavy to move, is potentially dangerous and can cause problems when the waste is processed.

We’re also finding waste from green bins being ‘contaminated’ with non-recyclable items, which creates major delays at our materials recycling facility.

We know it’s tempting to get that clear-out, DIY or gardening done at the moment but unless you have somewhere to store the extra waste please postpone these projects until restrictions are lifted.

Don’t put it in bins and don’t leave it on the street, in back lanes or next to your bins. This is not only fly-tipping (a criminal offence) but also obstructs access – often for refuse or emergency vehicles.

Please hold on to any large items like wood, metals or furniture. Garden waste should be stored and kept dry or you may want to consider composting at home

Alternatively there are local businesses that will dispose of your waste for a charge – but check you use a registered waste carrier as you will be responsible if your waste ends up fly-tipped.
