Love Plymouth Parks

Over the past few months our green spaces have taken on extra significance, offering people a small piece of joy and familiarity while the world beyond was so uncertain.

So throughout this year’s summer holidays we’re bringing you Love Plymouth Parks; a celebration of our favourite places to go, coinciding with the national Love Parks campaign.

This year we’re going to have to do thing a bit differently. We won’t be able to do any big celebrations, but we will be offering activities and events that you can do in your households or online.

Every few days we will be releasing downloadable maps from different neighbourhoods from across the city. These maps show safe, accessible routes from key neighbourhood points to local parks and greenspaces.

These routes provide you will a chance to explore areas of your neighbourhood you may not been to before as well as finding new parks and greenspaces across the city to discover and enjoy.

We will be celebrating all the wonderful volunteers, community groups and friends groups who support us to maintain these spaces.

We will be releasing the new updated webpages on the Council website which detail how you can get involved in caring for your local spaces as well as providing our friends groups the chance to attend a webinar on returning to safe volunteering.

We will also be showcasing different social enterprises and businesses who support our parks and greenspaces.

Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet member for Street Scene and the Environment, said: “Our parks are special, and lockdown has shown that we must not take them for granted.

“We are so lucky to have such beautiful green space in Plymouth, and I hugely appreciate the staff, volunteers, businesses and residents who contribute to maintaining our parks.

“We will have to celebrate our green spaces and the people who make them so fantastic a bit differently this year, and I urge you to log on and get involved.”
