March meals on us

Plymouth City Council will pay for existing client Adult Community Meals (Meals on wheels) for the month of March 2021.

The cost of approximately 4,000 meals delivered to residents will be covered by the Covid Winter Grant Scheme.

People receive Adult Community Meals for a range of reasons; including due to ill health, mobility issues and lack of their own kitchen facilities.

Councillor Kate Taylor, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said: “Meals on wheels can be a lifeline for our most vulnerable residents, ensuring they can remain in their homes, live independently and with dignity.

“This is one of the services which does amazing things every day but doesn’t always get talked about, so I am delighted that we are able to cover the costs of something so important and ease the financial pressure on these households in these difficult times.”

Adult Community Meals are provided by CATERed and their highly trained and dedicated team of caterers and delivery drivers.  The service works hard to deliver meals 365 days a year, supporting clients in maintaining their independence in their own home with great nutritious meals.

The COVID Winter Grant Scheme was established to support those most in need across England with the cost of food, energy and water bills and other costs throughout the winter. To date Plymouth City Council has spent or distributed over £1 million to support those most in need in our city.
