Plymouth Military Kids Club Heroes Choir set to perform

The Plymouth Military Kids Club Heroes Choir is all set to perform their annual fund raising concert for the Poppy Appeal.

The choir is made up of children, whose parents are in the armed forces, from a group of over 65 local school clubs, supported by the City Council and the Royal British Legion.

The choir will be joining with the Plymouth Youth Concert Band, to put on a concert of music and songs from the shows on March 18 at the Plymouth Cathedral of St Mary and St Boniface.

MKC Heroes is a national network of school clubs, founded in Plymouth, having over 10,000 members across the UK and beyond. They are the voice of Service and veterans’ children, with Plymouth being the most active and largest cluster.

The Plymouth Youth Concert Band, the premiere ensemble for young wind instrument players, works in partnership with the Military Kids, every year, to showcase their fantastic musical abilities, at a range of city events.

VIP guests will include the Lord Mayor of Plymouth Councillor Richard Ball, the Mayor of Saltash Councillor Gloria Challon and the Deputy Mayor of Torpoint Councillor Rachel Tanner who will join the parade of standards of the Military kids Club and Royal British legion, to open the concert.

The choir is supported by the council as part of the city’s Armed Forces Covenant. This is the only covenant with a specific theme group in support of children, young people and their families with young people from the military community as active members.

Councillor Pauline Murphy Plymouth’s Armed Forces Champion said: “This really is one of the highlights of the year for Plymouth’s military children and young people. Every year they put in such hard work and dedication to making this concert special and they’ll helping to raise lost of money for the Poppy Appeal. Last year they raised £2,000 and this year they’ll be hoping to do even better. I really hope as many people as possible come along to support the concert.”

The concert starts at 7pm on Wednesday 18 March. Entrance is completely free and people are asked to leave a donation in one of the charity buckets at the end of the performance.
