Plymouth Road update: June 2020

Here is a quick update on the works at Plymouth Road.

The scheme, part of the Easter Corridor Junction Improvement Scheme, restarted last month having been halted for six weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here’s a round-up of what is going on this week and beyond.

Cot Hill

The right-turn from Plymouth Road to Cot Hill will be closing for five weeks from Thursday.

Work here focusses on putting in a new retaining wall near the riverbank so that we can make the junction bigger and extend the slip lane to ease queues in the future.

The right-turn slip lane itself closes on Thursday and then from Monday 8 June, the middle lane will be also closed.

Access to Cot Hill will still be open for city-bound traffic. So if you’re coming from Marsh Mills, you will need to go up to the Larkham Lane junction and come back down the other side of Plymouth Road.

When the retaining wall is finished, closures on this part of the road will still be needed, but are likely to be scheduled to avoid peak times wherever possible. More details on this will be available nearer the time.

We always envisaged this being the most disruptive part of the scheme but we are confident that the current lighter traffic flow will help to make this slightly less painful.

Marsh Mills

Good news - work at Marsh Mills is nearing completion.

So that the teams can resurface the carriageway, there will be two overnight road closures this week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the city-bound approach of Plymouth Road, from Woodford Avenue to Marsh Mills roundabout, will be closed between 8.30pm and 6am.

The official diversion route is via the A38.

Larkham Lane

We’re also nearing completion at Larkham Lane.

A short southbound closure from opposite Unicorn Lane to Plymouth Road will be required on Thursday and Friday night, from 8.30pm and 6am.

The official diversion is via Plymbridge Road and Woodford Avenue.
