Update on resurfacing work on Tavistock Road

Overnight resurfacing work on the inbound side of Tavistock Road, near Crownhill Village, is now expected to finish by Friday morning.

The work started on Thursday and was due to continue until tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. It involves closing the inbound side of Tavistock Road from the Plumer Road on-slip to Great Berry Road from 7pm to 6am each night.

Unfortunately a machinery breakdown at the quarry supplying South West Highways’ binder material on Friday evening meant that works had to be suspended.

One of the lanes had already been ‘milled out’ to a depth of 10cm and, because it was not safe to drive on, we had to keep it closed over the weekend (when the quarry is closed) and yesterday.

This inevitably caused significant delays for inbound traffic during the evening peak yesterday. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused but it was obviously due to circumstances out of our control.

The work restarted last night and the lane that had been closed was reopened this morning.

However, due to Friday’s setback and forecast rain tonight, crews will need two extra nights to complete the work. They now expect to finish by Friday morning.

Resurfacing that was due to take place between Powisland Drive and Southway Drive from tomorrow night will not start until this work is complete.
