Wind warning for Plymouth

The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Plymouth from 8pm tonight until midday tomorrow.

Storm Evert is expected to bring strong to gale force winds as it hits this South West, potentially causing damage to infrastructure and travel disruption.

People are being warned to expect flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto seafronts, coastal roads and properties. Mount Batten Pier is being closed to the public and people are advised to take care near the waterfront and not ‘wave watch’.

There could be some damage to buildings and temporary outdoor structures and there is a risk of falling trees.

Roads and bridges may close and bus, rail, air and ferry services may be disrupted. Follow Tamar Crossings on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates on the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.

Power cuts may also occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

Crews are on standby to deal with any issues that arise. To report an immediate danger such as fallen tree please call 01752 668000. All other issues can be reported on our website at www.plymouth.gov.uk.
