Request a hygiene rating revisit, appeal or right to reply

If you believe your hygiene rating is unfair or wrong you can request a revisit, appeal or submit a right to reply.

Request a revisit

You can request a revisit to inspect your business to reassess your score. Please make sure that you've taken all the steps you need to rectify the faults identified at your visit before making this request. During the re-visit we'll be looking at standards generally not just areas you have been working to improve, so your hygiene rating could go up, down or remain the same. There is a fee for each requested revisit and there's no limit to amount of revisits you can ask for.

Appeal

You have 21 days (including weekends and bank holidays) from the date of receipt of the Food Hygiene Rating notification letter or email to lodge an appeal. You can speak to the officer that inspected the premises who will tell you how the rating was worked out. You can then decide if you still want to appeal.

Right to reply

If your food business has improved hygiene or you believe there were unusual circumstances at the time of the inspection you have the 'right to reply'.
