The Urban Fringe Development Plan Document is a joint document being prepared by Plymouth City Council, South Hams District Council and Devon County Council, with the assistance of Baker Associates Planning Consultants.

The plan will cover the area around the edge of Plymouth, including the communities of Hemerdon, Woolwell, Roborough and Bickleigh. It aims to protect and improve landscape and green areas and to bring forward proposals which help create sustainable linked communities. We want the communities in the urban fringe to make decisions about what happens in their neighbourhoods.

To ensure these plans for the urban fringe take account of local views we've gathered information about each community and about the landscape and environment in the urban fringe, and we held community workshops (October 2009) so that everyone had the opportunity to add their ideas.

We're now consulting on a set of pamphlets which set out what we've found out about the urban fringe and the communities within it, and how we think these findings could be used to create the Plymouth Urban Fringe Development Plan. The issues and preferred options consultation runs from Wednesday 16 February until Wednesday 30 March, and is being undertaken by South Hams District Council.
