Disabled drivers parking bay
You can apply for a disabled driver's parking bay near to your home if you meet all of the following:
- have a valid Blue Badge
- are the driver of the vehicle that will use the parking bay*
- often find it hard to park near to your home
- don't have a garage, driveway or hard-standing
*Only in exceptional circumstances will consideration be given to persons other than the driver of the vehicle where there is substantial medical evidence that the applicant requires constant care and supervision and as a consequence would place them at risk if left unattended for any length of time. In these instances, the driver of the vehicle must also reside at the address where the marking is to be provided.
Any one of the following normally results in a bay application being refused:
There are no parking problems in the street (a survey may be carried out)
There are parking restrictions near the applicant’s home (single or double yellow lines)
You live near a junction (10 metres)
The proposed bay is close to, or within, the turning head of a cul-de-sac
The width of street is less than 3.6 metres
Safety of a road user (bay required on brow of hill) - see Highway Code.
It costs £40 to apply for a disabled bay which is not refundable. An application does not guarantee the bay will be approved.
A disabled driver's parking bay can be used by any blue badge holder.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application pack. After we recieve your application a site visit will be carried out to see if a bay can be provided.
If approved it can take up to 12 weeks for a disabled driver's parking bay to be marked on the road. Weather and emergencies can cause our works schedules to change so we're unable to give definite timescales for installing disabled parking spaces.
