Report a dangerous structure

If you feel a building or structure is dangerous, let us know and we'll carry out an inspection. We'll check the level of danger and if necessary will remove the danger or ask that the area is boarded or fenced off.

Email buildcon@plymouth.gov.uk or call 01752 304343 (out of hours 01752 668000) to report a dangerous structure. We'll ask you some questions to help us identify a priority.

Action we take

If we consider the building immediately dangerous we'll request evacuation and take necessary action to protect the public and properties nearby. Such action can involve temporary road closing, barricading, shoring, scaffolding, repairing or demolishing.

If the building isn't immediately dangerous we'll issue the owner with a notice requiring the property is made safe within a certain time. If satisfactory action isn't taken we can issue an enforcement order. If this isn't complied with, we can instruct necessary works to make the building safe and recover expenses from the owner.

We don't get involved if the building or structure is not dangerous but in a poor state of repair.
