Plymouth stands together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day

Everyone in Plymouth is invited to join a public memorial event being held on the Hoe to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday 27 January.

The event in the Peace Garden at 10.30am will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, as well as representatives from a range of organisations.

It is one of a number of events being held in Plymouth as part of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, which marks the 75 ‘Stand Together’.

The City Council has committed to making Holocaust Memorial Day a civic event each year and has organised a range of events in partnership with the Plymouth Centre for Faiths and Cultural Diversity.

Holocaust Memorial Day is an opportunity each year for people to stand together with those in our local community, across boundaries of faith, age and ethnicity. We can all learn about those in our communities that have been persecuted and take action for the future.

Plymouth has the oldest Ashkenazi synagogue in the English-speaking world and the Jewish cemetery is one of the oldest in the UK. They stand as evidence of the deep roots the Jewish community has here.
