Shielding to end from April

Caring for Plymouth

Caring for Plymouth is set to stand down from Thursday 1 April as shielding across the UK comes to an end.

Caring for Plymouth is a Council-led initiative backed by Livewell Southwest and a large number of voluntary and community sector organisations that was established at the beginning of the pandemic in April 2020.

Over three separate lockdowns, the partnership has helped to provide a vital lifeline for people who are clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) to COVID-19. In all, the team made and received around 18,400 calls.

With government advice and guidance now changing, residents who are CEV are being advised to work from home if they can and take extra precautions should they need to go out.

Supermarkets have committed to continuing priority supermarkets delivery slots until 21 June for those that already have them.

The Council will shift the focus of its support from the CEV to people who have been told to isolate. Services will be focussed on people who do not have established support networks so that they can access emotional support, access to food, medicine collection and support with paying bills and accessing money.

Residents who have any concerns should contact 01752 668000 between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Alternatively, a full list of Caring for Plymouth partners and services can be found on the Plymouth Online Directory.
