The speed limit along Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road will soon be lowered, ahead of main construction work on the Forder Valley Link Road scheme.
As we announced earlier this year, the limit along both roads is being reduced from 40mph to 30mph, to ensure the safety of all road users and workers throughout the scheme construction.
While the main works are not expected to get under way until next month, there will be lane and footway narrowing on Forder Valley Road from Monday 21 October, while Wales and West ‘cap off’ a gas supply.
To ensure a safe working area for these works and to give drivers time to adjust to the lower speed limit, it will be introduced on Wednesday 16 October.
The change has already been formally advertised and advance warning signs are being put out along both roads to help make drivers aware.
Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and infrastructure said: “Work has been pressing ahead to relocate utilities and prepare the site and we are getting very close now to the start of main construction work.
“The speed limit reduction is one of the traffic measures we announced back in May and is being implemented to keep everyone – including site workers – safe.
“This is one of our biggest ever road projects but I want to assure drivers and pedestrians we are doing everything we can to keep traffic moving while also maintaining a safe working environment.
“We want to give people plenty of advance warning about changes that may affect them so that they can plan ahead.”
The Forder Valley Link Road will create a much-needed alternative link between the A38 and the north of the city, avoiding Manadon Roundabout and the A386 Tavistock Road.
