If you have any consumer advice issues, such as faulty goods and services you should call the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06 for help and advice.

Alternatively, The Citizens Advice website tells you all you need to know about your rights as a consumer and how to deal with consumer problems.

 

Buy with Confidence

If you need the services of a local trader you can find one through our Buy with Confidence scheme.

Every business listed has undergone a series of checks before being approved as a member of the scheme. Visit the Buy with Confidence website to search for an approved trader.

Doorstep crime

This is when rogue traders cold call and knock on your door and pressure you into buying something or signing up for a service you do not need or want. The most common doorstep crime includes:

  • Traders offering guttering/roofing or paving services
  • Gardening or tree cutting services
  • Taking deposits and not returning to do the work
  • Charging large amounts for little work

We advise you display the 'No Cold Callers' sticker to help prevent you being a victim doorstep crime. To order a sticker and an information pack email trading.standards@plymouth.gov.uk.

Product Safety & Recalls

Product safety is one of our priority areas of work. 

If you have found a dangerous fault with a product you have bought or are concerned about the safety of a product stop using it immediately and contact the Citizen's Advice Consumer Helpline. 

They will forward your complaint to the relevant Trading Standards team, who will, if appropriate investigate and take the necessary action.

Occasionally products are 'recalled' from the market due to safety concerns, a list of recalled products can be found on the Chartered Institute of Trading Standards website.
