Training and support for school governors

All support and training is provided through a subscription service. The service is designed to be accessed by governors, local governors and trustees.

New governors

On appointment, new governors will receive an invitation to the next new governor induction session. This training is offered as daytime and evening sessions throughout the year. At the chosen induction event a new governor will receive a welcome pack with information and resources to support their new role.

Governors' handbook

A governors' professional development handbook is sent to all governors. This handbook includes details of all the governor training courses available for the academic year.

Governors' training programme

Access to all training and helpline services, plus membership of Plymouth Association of Governors (PAG), is free to schools and academies subscribing to governor services under trading fair. Governors from non-subscribing schools are welcome to attend the training at a cost of £60 per governor per session.

Governors' briefing

We provide a governors' briefing (an electronic newsletter for governors and clerks) at least six times a year which includes:

  • Articles on best practice
  • The latest news from the world of education
  • Guidance for governors relating to changes in legislation
  • Details of training events, briefings and conferences
  • Articles from governors on matters of interest
