Update on traffic arrangements for Forder Valley Interchange scheme

There will be some changes to traffic arrangements around Forder Valley (Leigham) Roundabout over the coming weeks as the next phases of work on the Forder Valley Interchange scheme get underway.

Delamere Road

From Monday 20 September, a short section of Delamere Road on the approach to Leigham Roundabout will be closed each night between 7pm and 6am for three weeks. This is for works to install new underground ducting for utility services, alter the existing traffic island and build a new traffic island.

Traffic will be diverted via Eggbuckland Road to Fort Austin Avenue, through Crownhill Village (Morshead Road) and onto Tavistock Road southbound towards Manadon Roundabout and the A38.

From Monday 27 September, the other side of the road (heading away from Leigham Roundabout) will also be closed overnight for two weeks, meaning that for these two weeks there will be no access to or from Delamere Road via Leigham Roundabout.

Diversions will either be via Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road towards The George Junction and Tavistock Road southbound or via the A38 to Manadon Roundabout and onto Tavistock Road northbound.

These closures are needed for safety reasons while teams are digging close to existing underground services but will only be in place between 7pm and 6am. Closures on both sides will be lifted by 6am on Monday 11 October.

Parking spaces on Delamere Road will not be affected.

Forder Valley Road (South)

From Tuesday 28 September, the southbound side of Forder Valley Road (heading towards Leigham Roundabout) will be closed for three nights (7pm to 6am) while the concrete safety barrier is removed. Local traffic will be able to reroute through Leigham, while lorries will be diverted via The George Junction, Tavistock Road southbound and the A38.

Longbridge Road

From 4 October, the inside (left-turn) lane on the Longbridge Road approach to Leigham Roundabout will be closed for 12 weeks but left turning traffic will be able to use lane two.

From Monday 11 October, Longbridge Road will be closed overnight in both directions between Leigham Roundabout and Barnstaple Close. The closure will be in place between 7pm and 6am for four weeks, while work is carried out to alter the traffic island closest to the roundabout and install drainage and communications ducting across Longbridge Road. Traffic will still be able to access Longbridge Road via signed diversions through Leigham.

Most of the overnight works are expected to take place from Sunday night through to Thursday night so you may notice the closures lifted on Friday and Saturday nights, but there will be occasions when teams work on these nights too.

The Forder Valley Interchange scheme will improve traffic flow, upgrading and extending the short merge from the roundabout heading northbound onto Forder Valley Road and providing an additional lane on the southbound approach to the roundabout.

It will relieve the congestion and queueing that often extends back onto the roundabout and down the A38 westbound off-slip and complement the new Forder Valley Link Road. New, segregated off-road space and widened shared space will also be provided for walkers and cyclists, as well as new pedestrian and cyclist priority across Wilburt Road.
