Plymouth Seafood Festival is back for its eighth year and is set to bring The Barbican and Sutton Harbour alive on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September.
Plymouth Seafood Festival is back for its eighth year and is set to bring The Barbican and Sutton Harbour alive with entertainment, activities and dishes to celebrate the city's fantastic caught seafood.
Organised by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership and supported by local businesses, the festival showcases the quality fresh fish available in the city. Plymouth is home to the second largest fish market in the UK and was the first city to be awarded Fish2Fork Blue Fish status for its commitment to sourcing sustainable fish, so has a lot to celebrate.
The festival is a vibrant celebration of the incredible sustainably caught fresh fish and seafood on offer in Britain’s Ocean City, along with entertainment and music throughout the day, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during the weekend.
Visit the array of traders along The Parade and Quay Square, where you’ll find a wide range of tasty and interesting delights, along with shanty bands entertaining the crowds.
Explore the informative exhibits of Plymouth Trawler Agents and see over 45 different local species of fish from our waters, many of which you can purchase from 2.30pm on Sunday, proceeds to the Fishermen’s Mission.
Watch the demonstrations on how to fillet fish and ask the experts for their top tips! There are lots of fun craft activities for children to enjoy too.
Join the scientists from the National Marine Aquarium with their microscopic plankton investigation and squid dissection. Experience diving into the ocean, through Virtual Reality.
Learn how to pick and dress crab at the interactive demonstrations from Seafish, who will also have a fish quiz and lots of goodies for children, whilst offering industry and recruitment information.
See the fishing vessels provided by Interfish, moored up alongside Quay Square, and find out about the fishermen’s experiences out on the ocean.
Try the delicious fresh Mackerel and Sardines that are extremely healthy as well as tasty!
Purchase some fabulous fresh seafood from Dan the Fishman’s colourful display, and enjoy his interactive cooking demonstrations.
Hands-on activities for children, with the Kids Kitchen provided by CATERed, offering free workshops making Smashing Smoothies, Fantastic Fish on a Stick, Fabulous Fish Cakes and Fruity Fishy Art Displays.
Cook your Catch with Le Vignoble and Plymouth Boat Trips, who are offering the ultimate seafood dining and wine tasting experiences at Royal William Yard on Saturday.
Build a boat out of nothing but cardboard and sticky tape then sail it around the harbour! On Saturday you can get stuck in with the IMechE Cardboard Boat Race on Commercial Wharf. The winner is the last one to sink!
Little Nippers will love the crabbing competition on Sunday at the Boathouse Café, from 2.30pm, £5 per person, with fantastic prizes to be won.
Celebrate at Rockfish with their Crab Festival, on Sunday from 12pm outside the restaurant, with live music, entertainment and lots of fantastic crab dishes to enjoy.
