Weston Mill HWRC to open further

Weston Mill Household Waste Recycling Centre is set to open on Mondays and Fridays, as well as at weekends, from 16 April.

The North Prospect Road site, which opens from 8.30am until 5.30pm, partially reopened in September 2020 so that our COVID-hit resources could prioritise essential waste services.

So what’s changed? Well, firstly we are expecting all of our staff who are shielding to return to work on 1 April and with the vaccination roll-out and Lateral Flow Tests now available, we’ve got much more confidence that we can extend the opening of Weston Mill and keep other services running smoothly as well. Also, with lockdown restrictions soon to be lifted, we're the expecting an increase in demand.

To make things easier still, residents will now be able to dispose of wood at Weston Mill, too.

Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet member for Street Scene and the Environment, pictured above at Weston Mill, said: “We always said that we’d continue to review the opening hours of Weston Mill and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

“With changes to national restrictions and guidance, we’re now in a position where we can open it up a bit more and make sure that the services people value the most, like brown and green bin collections, can continue alongside.”

Assuming all other government criteria are met in accordance with the Government Roadmap to Recovery and all other waste service are running smoothly, Weston Mill will reopen fully from 17 May.
