- 19 March - Delegated decision to approve business case and allocate funding in the capital programme
- Extensive consultation events over 19 days in March and April on our Better Places proposals, which included Armada Way. These were held at various locations around the city and advertised on our website, our social media channels and in the local press. There were workshops on a range of topics which was attended by local groups and organisations.
2019
- 5 March - Cabinet approves Better Places public realm business case and allocates £4.5m for the project within the capital programme
2020
- 3 July - Delegated decision approves allocating funding from Transforming Cities Fund into Better Places scheme and business case updated
2020 to 2022 Covid pandemic – Project on hold because of pandemic and lockdowns
2022
- 19 August – contractors appointed – with initial concepts released
- 29 September – Armada Way public information event with more detailed proposals. This was advertised on all social media platforms, the Council’s website, BBC Spotlight and radio stations and posters distributed around the city centre and public buildings. The information boards were then displayed at the Central Library for over two weeks.
- 21 November – ‘pause’ announced by the Cabinet Member for Transport at Full Council to respond to the request in the petition to ‘incorporate a bit more of what we already have’.
- 24 November – knowledge centre set up for people to view plans
- Amended designs published including the retention of six more trees
2023
- 19 January - modified design for Armada Way regeneration published
- 19 January – petition formally validated
- 30 January – petition debated at Full Council and resolution passed to recommend that the Cabinet Member for Transport undertake ‘meaningful community engagement process’ in February before final designs
- 6 to 11 February – engagement events in Guildhall and online surveys
- 14 March – Delegated decision signed, with 19 new trees added and an additional existing tree retained, engagement report published, site preparation work begins
- 15 March – worked stopped in early hours due to an injunction
- 24 March - injunction hearing
- 27 April - nesting birds halt clean-up of feels trees
- 19 May - Withdrawal of decision – Better Places Programme Armada Way Scheme
- 26 May - the Council wrote to the claimant’s solicitors asking them to withdraw their legal action,
- 16 and 29 June - the clean-up began with the removal of the stumps and pulling back of sections of the fencing.
- 29 June - the High Court wrote to the Council saying it did not agree to our application to withdraw proceedings
- 10 July – Independent review announced.
- 6 October - Executive Decision agreeing to move forward with a consultation on the proposed new scheme is published.
- 17 October – Launch of the consultation into the new proposed designs for Armada Way.
- 28 November - Close of the consultation (results of the consultation)
- 22 December - Announcement of the timescales of the decision making process
2024
- 12 January - Growth and Infrastructure Overview and Scrutiny Committee papers published - with the full consultation report and outlining the changes to the design following the consultation
- 5 February - Cabinet receives the recommendations from the Growth and Infrastructure Overview and and Scrutiny Committee.
- 19 February - Cabinet confirms the final design of the Armada Way scheme, giving the go-ahead for further work to be undertaken on the cost of construction.
