Citywide projects

Did you know that there are lots of things you can get involved in that will help you gain new skills and make new friends?

There are many city wide projects that are run by the Youth Service that bring young people together from across the city to represent others and help to make Plymouth a better place for all. There are lots of rewards for being involved. One way is accreditation where you get a certificate for being involved such as an AQA or part of your Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE). We also do lots of team building activities.

Take a look at our project links below to see if this could be for you.

Young Safeguarders

The Young Safeguarders are a group of young people aged between 14 and 19 who act as an advisory body, 'youth proofing' information, policies and procedures and in turn help the Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board (PSCB) to keep the focus on children and young people.

What happens in meetings?

Some members of our group were previously involved in the design, development and filming of a safeguarding film that will be used in the training of professionals from across the city. We are currently undertaking basic training around the issue of safeguarding. This includes finding out more about what Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board does and jargon busting. We know this sounds quite serious as the topics we look at are serious and sometimes scary. Safeguarding is everybody's business and we are trying to help make things better for children and young people in Plymouth. We don't always do serious work. Sometimes, we just sit around and catch up on what kind of week we've had, or we play pool, or make cakes to eat.
