Plymouth Council Tax payers can support the city’s ambitious plans to tackle climate change – as well as save themselves time and hassle – by switching their payments to Direct Debit.
The Council has pledged to plant a tree for every additional household who signs up to pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit before the end of April.
Direct Debit is a simple, safe, secure and more convenient way of paying Council Tax. It is also cheaper for the Council to process Council Tax payments than other payment methods.
Councillor Mark Lowry, Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “This should be a win-win for most households – you can do your bit to help make Plymouth greener, while also cutting out the hassle of having to remember to make payments.
“As a Council, this supports our commitment to tackle climate change and for Plymouth to become a net carbon neutral city by 2030. The more households that sign up for Direct Debit, the more trees we will be able to plant.
“The money saved will not only pay for tree planting, but will also save the Council money in the long run, which will help protect local services as our funding declines.”
