Determined admission arrangements

Plymouth City Council is the admission authority for all Plymouth community and voluntary controlled nurseries and primary schools.

Academies, Foundation, Free, Trust or Voluntary Aided schools aren't under the control of the Council. The admission authority for these schools will be either the Board of Governors of the school or the Multi Academy Trust (MAT).

Admission authorities set admission arrangements every year. The admission authority will consult on any proposed changes to the admission arrangements. If there are no changes, the admission arrangements must be consulted on at least every 7 years.

Many schools will have more applicants than places. The admission criteria used to allocate places when a school is oversubscribed should be fair, clear, and objective. Schools must comply with all statutory requirements and the mandatory requirements of the School Admissions Code.

All admission authorities must determine their admission arrangements for the 2025/2026 school year by 28 February 2024. The admission authority must display the admission arrangements on their website for the whole offer year. Links to individual school websites are available on GOV.UK.

Objecting

If you think any admission arrangements are unlawful, or not in compliance with the School Admissions Code or law relating to admissions, you can make an objection to the Schools Adjudicator.

When you can object

All admission authorities must determine their admission arrangements for the 2025/2026 school year by 28 February 2024. Links to individual school websites are available on GOV.UK.

You should object as early as possible. Any delays up to the deadline will affect the decision date. If you miss the deadline, the adjudicator may still consider the objection - but only if there's good reason for not sending it earlier.

What happens after you object

The schools adjudicator will consider all evidence provided to them before reaching an independent decision within the law.

Once made, a 'determination' will be published on their website. The determination will contain the decision and the reasons behind that decision.

Published admission numbers

The published admission number (PAN) is the number for every normal point of entry year group into which pupils can be admitted, including Year 12 (when there is a sixth form). The admission number is the maximum number of pupils that the admission authority will admit to each year group.

The 2024 to 2025 published admission numbers for the majority of schools in Plymouth will remain the same as those used for 2023 to 2024.
