The Associated British Ports - Port of Plymouth BCP (GBPLY15) is designated for the importation of packaged products of animal origin ONLY. A list of UK Border Control Posts and their designations is maintained on GOV.UK.

Notifying imports of products of animal origin

You must pre-notify Products of Animal Origin (POAO) travelling through Associated British Ports - Port of Plymouth BCP via import of products, animals, food and feed system (IPAFFs) at least 24 hours before the consignment is due in port. Visit GOV.UK to notify enforcement authorities about importing products of animal origin to Great Britain.

Import checks of products of animal origin

Documentary checks will be carried out on all consignments and identity/physical checks will be carried out randomly at intervals as required by legislation.

All costs resulting from official controls, including sampling, analysis, and any measures taken following non-compliance, shall be borne by the food business operator.

Additional charges may apply from the port operator to produce a container for examination and for the storage of the goods. Food business operators should contact the port operator for clarification of these charges.

Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) imports

The Sea Fishing (Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing) Order 2009 (No. 3391) makes the checking of catch certificates at Plymouth Port the responsibility of the Port Health Authority. This service is run in partnership with the London Port Health Authority.  

Notification of IUU imports

You should pre-notify London Port Health Authority using IPAFFS on GOV.UK and upload a digital copy of your EHC/IUU documents. Make sure that a certified EHC physically accompanies the consignment.

Notification of organic imports

Importers must notify London Port Health Authority 24 hours in advance before the organic consignment arrives. Notifications are made via your Philis account with London Port Health Authority.

Inspection fees

Charges are levied by London Port Health Authority. Current charges for import control are on the City of London website.
