You need a licence to put furniture such as tables and chairs on the public pavement. You don't need a licence if you're putting the tables and chairs on private land.
A new application costs up to £500 and renewals up to £350.
The fee is non-refundable.
Before you apply read the guidance:
Applying
We recommend you talk to neighbouring businesses and occupiers before applying. Consider any issues around noise and nuisance as part of your proposal.
If your application is valid, Plymouth Highways will provide a site notice for you to display. The notice must be easily visible and legible for people to read. A 14-day consultation period will begin in which people can comment on your proposal. After the consultation period has ended we will take up to 14 days to consider the application and any feedback received.
