If you feel you need more support and advice, there’s lots of help available across the city so please reach out.
Your child’s school is a good place to start if you feel comfortable reaching out to a member of school staff to talk about your concerns, for example if your child is struggling to attend school. Depending on whether your child is in primary or secondary school, this may be your child’s class teacher, tutor or Head of Year.
Early Help and SEND advice line
Our Early Help and SEND advice line offers support to families with children of all ages, whether you have worries about education, emotional wellbeing, school attendance or SEND concerns. Simply book a conversation with a Family Support Worker, who can signpost you to the relevant support available across the city.
Family Hubs
Plymouth’s network of Family Hubs are also here to help.
Family Hubs offer a welcoming, safe space for parents, carers, children and young people. You can visit or contact your nearest Family Hub to find out more about what’s on offer, such as parenting groups, child development groups, practical help from practitioners or peer supporters and much more.
Special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) support
If your child or young person has or may have SEND:
- Plymouth Information Advice and Support for SEND (PIAS) can help provide impartial information, advice and support for children and young people with SEND and their families. PIAS also offers a range of parenting programmes and SEND-focused workshops.
- Plymouth Parent Carer Voice (PPCV) is Plymouth’s official parent carer forum. They work to help shape and improve the education, health and social care services for children and young people with SEND in Plymouth. They can help if you are experiencing challenges, offering information, guidance and signposting as well as hosting a range of useful events.
