Local community groups and organisations are invited to apply for a £300 grant to help cover the costs of activities, events and parties that are being organised to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May, and the UK will have an extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May.
Over the past few weeks people across the city have been applying to hold a street party, whilst others are planning community, celebration events in local venues.
The Council has set aside a budget of £10,000 to fund grants of up to £300 to enable communities to come together and celebrate the weekend. The funding can help pay for decorations, safety equipment and food.
Groups / organisations can apply for grant funding, which will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
The closing date for the grant scheme is when all funds have been allocated or by 27 April. Applicants can only apply for one project.
You must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be an established community group who have their own bank account, schools, care homes and housing plus / supported living accommodation, located within Plymouth. Businesses and individuals will not be able to apply for funding
- Your project must not be retrospective, organisations should not commit themselves to a project, or any spending before any final decision is made
- All projects must demonstrate a clear link to the King's Coronation celebrations and actively benefit Plymouth residents, promoting access for all.
To apply for the fund, please complete the application form here.
During the weekend, there will also be a screening of the ceremony on the Barbican, so people can enjoy the historic occasion with others, with thanks to funding from the Government. The procession and service on Saturday 6 May will be shown on a big screen on The Parade, which has proven to be a popular location for live events.
On Coronation day there will be a party atmosphere on Quay Square and Southside Street, with charity stalls and stands, roving entertainment, children’s activities and a street party zone with tables and chairs for people to share food and picnics. There will also be a Coronation celebration service at St Andrew’s Church at 10am on Sunday 7 May. More details on the activities taking place across the city are available on the Visit Plymouth website.
