Extra PCR test site available in Plymouth this week

An additional PCR testing facility is being made available in Plymouth this week, as COVID-19 rates continue to rise in the city.

The mobile testing unit will be located outside the Tesco supermarket in Transit Way between 9am and 3pm from Thursday 22 July to Saturday 24 July.

Ruth Harrell, Director of Public Health for Plymouth, said: “We have arranged this additional PCR testing site as we know that rates of covid across the city are very high, especially in younger adults, and so we want to make it as easy as possible for people to be tested. You can use the mobile test unit without needing to book.

“I would urge anyone with symptoms, or who is a close contact of someone who has developed covid, to get tested as soon as possible.

"You can still book a PCR test at one of the existing sites by using the website. If you are not immediately offered a local test, please either visit the mobile testing unit or keep trying online, as additional tests are being made available all the time.

“Testing remains a vital tool in preventing the virus from spreading and protecting our community. We have good vaccination rates in Plymouth but we need everyone to remember that although the vaccine helps greatly to stop you becoming seriously ill, you can still catch COVID-19, and pass it on to others. So even if you have been double-vaccinated, please get tested and follow all the measures need to keep yourself and others safe.”

Everyone is also encouraged take regular lateral flow tests to ensure they are not carrying the virus. These can be ordered online or picked up from:
