Free things to enjoy in Plymouth

To help residents struggling during the cost of living crisis, Plymouth City Council is sharing details of all the free activities, events and things to do in the city.

This is a key element of the Council’s new cost of living action plan, which is set to be launched in August.

Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Sport, Leisure and HR and OD, who is leading the creation of the action plan, said: “We have made a commitment to tackling the cost of living crisis, and look forward to launching our new action plan later in the summer.

“We know that people in Plymouth are struggling. Food, energy and housing costs continue to rise and local residents are feeling the pressure. This includes people who may not have faced financial insecurity in the past.

“With the summer holidays starting, I wanted to ensure that people in Plymouth were aware of the huge array of free things to do in the city. This includes some of our major events, activities aimed at children and the brilliant range of beautiful blue and green spaces that are available to enjoy, all for free, right on our doorsteps.”

Visit Plymouth will also be promoting free things to do in the city as part of its summer campaign, aimed at residents and visitors alike.

The list of free things to do includes:

  • The Box, Plymouth
  • Library activities, including the Summer Reading Challenge
  • Fit and Fed community events
  • Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre
  • Free workshops and courses with On Course South West
  • Mount Wise Swimming Pools
  • Walking trails with the Plymouth Trails App
  • Major city events including Plymouth Pride, the British Firework Championships and the West End Carnival

Councillor Dann continued: “There’s so much to experience in Plymouth for free, and I hope this offers some inspiration and helps local families to make treasured summer holiday memories without impacting their budgets.”
