Pebble Beach reopens

Pebble Beach has now fully reopened to the public.

The popular beach, which sits between the Wet Wok and Maritimo restaurants and is accessed from Hoe Road, has been closed since late May after a survey revealed that the natural rocky outcrop that protrudes from the sea wall was unstable.

As promised in our last update, the work has been complete in time for the summer holidays by contractors who abseiled from the road to fix anchor points and netting to the outcrop, securing it to the retaining wall.

We have also fitted a grille to the sea cave at the base of the beach to prevent further access.

All of the fencing has now been removed and the car parking spaces that were closed on Hoe Road are usable again.

Councillor Chris Penberthy, Cabinet Member for Housing, Cooperative Development and Communities, said: "I'm really pleased to be able to open Pebble Beach, and in time for the summer holidays as we previously promised.

"The beach may only be small but we know how popular it is with families, swimmers, stand up paddle boarders, snorkellers… the list goes on!

"I look forward to see people enjoying it over the next six weeks and beyond."

Thanks so much for your patience while the work has been completed.
