Plymouth Road update - February 2021

Here is the latest update on works to Plymouth Road in Plympton.

It's no secret that it's all taking a bit longer than we originally envisaged. Partly due to COVID but partly due to issues we've encountered along the way.

Here's how we're getting on.

Marsh Mills

Good news - we're all done here apart from putting up some new signs and grass seeding the bank. A new, A38-only lane is open and all of the resurfacing on the entry and exit of the roundabout is complete.

Woodford Avenue

Also good news - the works to Woodford Avenue itself, including the new pedestrian island, have finished as have ground works to the junction. The new traffic signals are being installed over the next few weeks.

Cot Hill

The longer right-turn lane is nearing completion with some finishing works to the new drainage systems and the wall being carried out over the next couple of weeks.

The new lane is planned to be resurfaced and lined overnight this week (starting on Monday 1 February) with the westbound section between Larkham Lane and Cot Hill resurfaced from Monday 8 February. These works will be carried out at night with traffic diverted via Woodford Avenue and Larkham Lane. The installation of the new traffic signals at the junction has also started.

The not-so-good news here is that during this section of the scheme, we have encountered some unforeseen ground conditions which has so far made the job more difficult than we first envisaged.

Unfortunately this has meant we can’t progress with this section as quickly as we’d hoped. To make sure we get this right, we’re not anticipating re-opening the right-turn to Cot Hill until later in the Spring.

Coypool Rd

The works at Coypool Road are temporarily paused to following the discovery of an underground structure during excavation works. The works are expected to restart in early February.

Glen Road

Better news here - the ground works at the pedestrian crossing have finished and new traffic lights are currently being installed and which should be complete by the end of next week. New street lighting will also be installed but has been delayed following a Covid-19 positive test result amongst the contractor’s workforce.

Merafield Road

The junction was resurfaced earlier this week and cones are off the road.

Thank you for bearing with us; we know that no one wants or likes being stuck in traffic. All we can do is apologise - we're doing our best to get things done as quickly as possible.

As soon as we have anything more to report, we'll let you know.
