If you've been on your travels around the city, you may have noticed new splashes of vibrant colours dotted around some of Plymouth's verges and roundabouts.
Last year, during our series of Summer of Nature events, residents told us they wanted to see more flowers around the city.
In response to this we used grant funding to work with a local, award-winning horticulturalist to curate and sow a special wildflower seed mix, the result of which are now beginning to bloom.
So from the city centre, right out to St Budeaux Interchange, you will see reds and blues and yellows and purples where once there was only green.
It's good news for people and it's good news for pollinators and there is more to come with an additional 10,000 bulbs, including daffodils, snowdrops and bluebells, set to be planted later in the year, ready to bloom next Spring.
Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, said: “Since I got the ball rolling on this project, we’ve been so excited to see the flowers in bloom. Don’t the roundabouts and gateway sites look great?
“There are just so many positives – the flowers look fabulous; they benefit nature and pollinators in particular; we know it’s what residents want and, to top it off, we’ve managed to get it funded through a grant.
“This is just the start and I want us to plant a further 10,000 bulbs later this year for even more colour next Spring.”
