Work on road schemes suspended

Work on several Council road projects has been suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The Eastern Corridor Junction Improvements scheme at Plymouth Road, the Southway Drive Strategic Cycle Network scheme, the A38 Mayflower Signs project and the Millbay Boulevard are all affected.

SWH Ltd has taken the decision to temporarily make safe and suspend works locally in the interests of the safety of the workforce, their families and the local community.

The suspension of these works is anticipated to last until the end of April.

During this time checks will be carried out on all the sites to ensure they remain secure including the traffic management that will be needed to be left in place for the safety of road users.

Highway maintenance carried out by Plymouth Highways will not be affected. Essential works will continue to ensure the city’s roads and footways are safe to use and keep key workers and vital supplies moving.

Meanwhile, work on Forder Valley Link Road is continuing following a review of the Government’s construction site guidance and the implementation of measures by contractor Balfour Beatty to ensure compliance.

Due the nature of the current spell of work on this project, social distancing measures are able to be maintained.

We will keep all ongoing schemes under constant review and make a further announcement if there is any change.
