Work will ensure Pebble Beach is open for summer holidays

Map showing Pebble Beach closure

Pebble Beach is set to reopen in time for the summer holidays.

The popular beach, which sits between the Wet Wok and Maritimo restaurants and is accessed from Hoe Road, has been closed since late May after a survey revealed that the natural rocky outcrop that protrudes from the sea wall was unstable.

We have quickly engaged specialists to undertake remedial works which will involve contractors abseiling from the road to fix anchor points and netting to the outcrop, securing it to the retaining wall.

Contractors will also be fitting a grille to the sea cave at the base of the beach to prevent further access. It will then be filled at a later date. The downside of these works is that we will need to close the footpath that runs across the top of the beach on Hoe Road.

Clear diversion signs will be in place to give pedestrians plenty of time and notice to cross the road further up. Hoe Road will remain open to traffic but the contraflow system for cyclists will be suspended. Cyclists will need to dismount at this point.
