Chelson Meadow to accept hazardous waste from Monday

We will be accepting the following hazardous waste at Chelson Meadow recycling centre from Monday 1 June:

  • gas bottles
  • asbestos
  • household and garden chemicals
  • cooking oil
  • paint
  • fluorescent tubes
  • light bulbs
  • batteries
  • used engine oil
  • car batteries

This is in addition to garden waste (not soil or rubble), electrical items and bagged household waste (that you would normally put in your brown bin), which we have been taking since the site re-opened a few weeks ago.

Government guidance is that you should only travel to recycling centres if you cannot store your waste without it risking injury or harm to health – so we are reminding people that they should only visit if they really need to.

Some of the traffic restrictions have now been lifted but there is still high demand and these may be reinstated if needed. Cars can currently turn right into The Ride but the diversion via Faraday Mill may be put back in place if the site gets too busy.

We are still only allowing cars onto the site – no vans or trailers, even if you have a permit.

All other restrictions still apply. Please check all the information before setting out and be prepared for long waiting times, particularly when the site first opens in the morning.

The centre is open seven days a week, from 8am to 6pm.
