Recycling centres

To use our recycling centres you need to provide proof of your Plymouth address:

  • Council tax bill
  • driving licence
  • gas or electricity bill

Chelson Meadow

Chelson Meadow recycling centre is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm, 7 days a week. Except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Items accepted

  • general household waste
  • bulky waste
  • garden waste
  • scrap metal
  • fridges or freezers
  • TVs or other small electrical items
  • recycling ‘bring bank’ items, such as clothing, cans and glass bottles
  • antifreeze or chemicals
  • car or household batteries
  • fluorescent tubes or low energy lamps
  • gas bottles
  • cooking or engine oil
  • hazardous or commercial waste
  • Asbestos

Items accepted but charges apply

Charges apply for the disposal of certain materials which are not classed as Household waste.

Payment will be taken on site by Credit/debit card payments only. Receipts will be offered.

Waste charges

Waste Cost
Hardcore, rubble, soil and ceramics £2.40 per bag or item

£60 for loose material presented in a small trailer (trailer permit required)

£120 for loose material presented in a large trailer (trailer permit required)
Plasterboard £6 per bag or sheet

Payment Information

  • Payment will be taken on site by Credit/debit card only. We do not accept cash.
  • A bag is a small, plastic sand/aggregate bag from standard DIY stores that can be safely lifted by one person.
  • The charges payable will be based upon the quantity of material to be deposited.The rates given as an indicative guide.
  • Items such as a toilet pan, toilet cistern, sink, sink pedestal etc will be charged as single items.
  • The staff member’s decision on the actual charge is final.

Vans and trailers

Vans and trailers can use Chelson Meadow (exemptions and restrictions apply).

All vans and trailers need a permit.


Weston Mill

Weston Mill recycling centre is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm every Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The centre is closed from Tuesday to Thursday.

  • large household appliances (washing machines, cookers, tumble dryers)

Items not accepted

These items are not accepted at Weston Mill, you will need to take them to Chelson Meadow:

  • fridges or freezers
  • TVs or other small electrical items
  • recycling ‘bring bank’ items, such as clothing, cans and glass bottles
  • antifreeze, asbestos or chemicals
  • car or household batteries
  • fluorescent tubes or low energy lamps
  • gas bottles
  • cooking or engine oil
  • hazardous or commercial waste
  • hardcore, rubble, soil and ceramics
  • plasterboard
  • bonded asbestos 

Vans and trailers

Vans and trailers are not allowed to use Weston Mill.
